Bufonis Excrementum is quite toxic. Major toxic effects include gastrointestinal symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. The cardiovascular toxicity includes heart block, irregular heart beat, which can be blocked by atropine, vasodilatation, and a tendency for bleeding. CNS toxicity includes dizziness, numbness of the extremities, and, in large doses, coma.The LD50 of Bufonis Excrementum in mice was 41 mg/kg (I.v.), 96.6 mg/kg (s.c.), and 36.2 mg/kg (I.p.).1).
